WIBA 2025 - What does "Be the Leader" mean?
The Women in Behavior Analysis (WIBA) conference is committed to empowering women in behavior analysis. Each year our conference theme reflects not only where we are as a field but where we want to go. In 2025, we are challenging our community with a bold call to action—“Be the Leader.”
From Following to Leading
Leadership is often perceived as something reserved for a select few—those with certain degrees, titles, years of experience, or specific accolades, but the reality is leadership is for everyone. It’s not just about who’s at the top of an organization; it’s about who takes initiative, who inspires others, and who drives meaningful change.
Our 2025 conference logo captures a powerful shift in mindset. The phrase “Follow the Leader,” a concept many associate with childhood, is reimagined by striking out the word “Follow” and replacing it with “BE.” This bold visual transformation symbolizes a move from passive participation to active leadership—from waiting for direction to stepping forward and leading with purpose.
Why "Be the Leader" Matters in Behavior Analysis
True progress in any field requires diverse leadership. Whether in clinical practice, research, education, or advocacy, we need leaders who push for ethical, evidence-based, and socially significant change while also amplifying diverse voices to ensure our field reflects the communities we serve. Leadership isn’t about perfection—it’s about taking action, making mistakes, and growing along the way.
